One Garden

Zooplastics

This series of images entitled ZOOPLASTICS aim to raise awareness about the issue of plastic pollution in coastal and marine environments, in particular, the smaller and almost invisible particles that can result from the fragmentation of bigger pieces or being produced in small sizes, defined by scientists as microplastics (with less than 5 mm).

ZOOPLASTICS is a description given to all these “new species” found in aquatic habitats.

All plastic pieces were photographed under a stereo microscope (LEICA M80) and have been extracted from samples collected from the waters and sediments of the oceans, rivers and beaches and from the gut content of several aquatic species.

The idea is to spread the message that plastics are getting smaller and are present in all environmental media.

Bottle to Bottle

I'd like to change the behaviour of my student friends at University of Darmstadt. Everyone comes with a plastic bottle. The idea is to find companies that sell alternative bottles made from glass, metal or other recyclable materials. With a campaign all users of plastic bottles are asked to change for the better and decide for another bottle. Maybe there can be a market at school. At the Makeathon I'd like to find a team that helps me to think it through how this can be realized.

Treasure plastic

I did a survey at home and school about plastic consumption. But there are so many different types of plastic. It's so hard to differentiate. I know that not all recycling companies can deal with all plastics. I wish I could find a team at Makeathon to find solutions. 1) How can the plastics be sorted? 2) Where can they really be recycled? 3) Who can be involved to sort more plastic items so that it makes sense to bring them to the recycling companies.

Revolutionize the system

The human population depends on plastic consumption mainly for convenience. Ideas such as zero waste stores, resusable items, and recycling, all are only implemented a small amount because of the lack of people thinking that plastic consumption doesn't matter, or many can not be persuaded. In order to tackle plastic consumption, we need to go to the source. If companies were to stop producing unnecessary plastic, and turn towards bio-regardable mateirals such as hemp and recycled materials, the vastly growing number of platsic waste would untimely be forced to decrease, since there would not be a steady production of new plastic. It would be extremely difficult to force these companies to stop production, but if awareness, government support, and a more sustainable way of conveince was created, the plastic production can be graudually decreased. Factories that produce plastic bags, etc, can be shut down and converted into facilites that use a sustainable power source to run it, and use bio-regradable materials. Stores can be granted asccess to reusable hemp or cloth grocery bags, the news being distributed beforhand to the public that there will be bans on plastic in this country and town. It would be difficult to impliment this movement without the support of the governmnet or the public, so awerness would graually have to serve as the start of this ban on plastics. As seen in some innovative countries, existing plastic can be converted into building materials, or broken down into material for conventinol items. Useing veganism as a reference, we can also gradually introduce more agriculture to places that rely heavily on plastic, alllowing more plant based- materials to be made. Natural, and reusable items should also be intouduced to the public, as plastic production declines. Zero-waste stores, plant based packaging, and encouraging less commercial consumption of plastic cups, can be acheived over time. (Sanitation would also be taken into consideration in zero-waste stores by maintance and converting ways for the public being able to access goods, without touching anything, such as using dispensing machines) The public has been able to have global unity with circumstances the governmnet orders before, (such evrey country listing to government order about the corona virus) so bans on plastic and investment in converting existing trash/plastic into materials that can be put back into the earth or remade into something else. The public can begin to make this happen through unity, petitions, raising money to begin making these changes happen, and also implementing education in schools at an early age on sustainabilty, takeing responsiabily as an individual, and teaching a new generation on how to live a more sustainable life, and skills that will help them in the future and teach them to be an individual. (Similar to the way Japanese culture teaches kids at an early age of disciplene, respect, and knowing how to grow their own food) We can make the new generation better if we change our ways. The bio degradable materials would have to be produced in a way most likely from converting by product materials from plants, such as the leaves from trees that are cut down for the use of paper, etc. Their will be many innovations, and already existing ideas that would have to be used for this overall plastic ban. Eventually, we can help countries all over the world implement these ways of sustainble living by supporting them and building facilities that will produce eco-friendly materials, replacing plastic producing factories eventually.

Bioplastic-Garden Material

Hi, I want to use bioplastics made from starch to create agricultural items such as grow tunnels for plants. So they can be first used when it's too cold and then later to put on the ground to compose, so the plants can use the ingredients.
Would be great to get support how to scale this as the production is currently hand-made.

Zero Waste Maps

Project "Zero Waste Maps" got a third place at the 2019 Climathon, which took place across 156 cities in 50 countries. Kraków’s theme was mobility and zero-emissions. I wanted to encourage Krakow's residents to use the map of services located in their closest living area and be zero waste. I decided that distance of 10 minutes would be enough to find places where citizens can do basic shopping with their own bag/box/cup or have their shoes or laptop repaired.

With a happy coincidence, the Public Transport Office was looking to replace its maps in one of the Krakow's districts called Nowa Huta, and I was able to receive three spots to display maps on a trial basis.

The idea is beneficial from many angles. Not only do customers reduce single use plastic (in favor of the reusables, because the campaign’s focus is on the reduction of waste, such as plastic bags, food packaging and coffee cups, which often land in the bin a few minutes after purchase.), but they also limit their commute and as a result CO2 emissions. What’s more, the maps support smaller shopkeepers and buying locally.

I want to promote this idea by encouraging people to create their own maps (in cooperation with local NGOs & municipalities). The next step is to organize city walks, explaining what "zero waste lifestyle" really means and how citizens can implement it in their own lives (by showing how to do the shopping locally, by meeting local craftsmen etc.).

Áak supermarket

- Áak supermarket will be completely vegan, zero waste, local and it will be made with biomaterials and eco bricks.
- In this place we'll have some rooms that will be used to educate people and show them how to make their own compost, garden, etc.
- We'll also have a place where people can leave their fruits and vegetables residues, so that we can give it to a group that specializes in compost making.

Collect me now

I would like to build a service here in Ghana. Help people to get money for colecting plastic. We have a lot of plastic waste so i want to change that. I want people to have better income. And with all that plastic i want to build new stuft. Maybe a house all made of plastic. Like that i put the picture.

Plastic Challenge at our school

We at our school in Brandenburg want to organize a challenge like Ice Water Bucket Challenge. We will have a price for the biggest plastic polluters. All classes should participate and measure the plastic they bring or use at school. In our class rooms are buckets full of plastic trash every day. We want to change that.
