Call for ideas competition
"YOUNG IMPACT INNOVATORS AWARD"
Solutions for a green future

Berlin, 1 July 2020. The world is suffocating in plastic waste - nature, animals, but also increasingly we humans ourselves. Comprehensive solutions suitable for the masses still seem a long way off, and the current corona crisis is even being used by industry to overturn environmental goals that have already been agreed upon. This makes it all the more important to show now that a plastic-smart future is possible.

Against this background, the Institute for Art and Innovation e.V. today the start of the Plastic Revolution with the ideas competition Young Impact Innovators Award known. On the basis of the sensitization for the problem of the exorbitant consumption of plastics and the challenges arising from it, the aim of the initiative is to support young people in developing and implementing effective and far-reaching solutions themselves.

The ideas competition has four phases:

Vom 1.

In the Idea generation phase art serves as an inspiring trigger - collections of facts and cooperation with research institutes of knowledge transfer - successful best practices of innovative founders as role models. On the online platform, various events invite to participate and prepare for the ideas competition. On the basis of "challenges" such as the analysis of your own plastic footprint, Learning Journeys which are suitable for use in current homeschooling or for teaching purposes.

To strengthen the potential of the ideas, the Plastic Revolution - Makeathon instead. Teams can come together here to prototype and test their ideas together with the support of experts and make them even better and more effective. All ideas then go through a selection process by an international jury and a public vote.

"The aim of the ideas competition is to encourage young people in particular to actively address ecological challenges and to support them in the strategic implementation of their solutions. Our aim is to let them experience self-efficacy by shaping change themselves. In this way, young people become long-term actors in social transformation processes," says Dr. Kroes. Victoria TrosiaBoard Director of the Institute for Art and Innovation.

We would especially like to thank the Albrecht von Dewitz Foundation for its kind support: "With the Albrecht von Dewitz Foundation we would like to do our part to make all the valuable ideas of young people visible and realizable! We are therefore delighted to be the main sponsor of the Young Impact Innovators Award and thus to be able to support many new and expanded innovations. The development of innovations and the preservation of our nature is particularly close to our hearts - from the mountains to the sea. We are as curious as all the other participants with which solutions the participants of the award will inspire and surprise us", Lina WanselFoundation Representative of the VAUDE Sport Albrecht von Dewitz Foundation.

Together with the younger generation and multipliers from the arts, science, business, politics, media and society, we develop innovative, effective and far-reaching solutions to the problems of the plastic epidemic. The project thus makes an important contribution to communicating the programme of the EU Council Presidency and underlines the strengths and opportunities of this topic. It thus consolidates Europe as an ecological driver of innovation and contributes to the goal announced by Ms von der Leyen of making Europe the first CO2-neutral continent by 2050 through the "European Green Deal" with a "Sustainable Europe Investment Plan". At the same time we support the plan for a plastics tax.

The project is implemented with the support of the Press and Information Office of the Federal Government as part of the public relations work of the Federal Government.
