Open-Island, die Upcycling-Schwimminsel
„Die Nachfrage nach Schwimminseln steigt mit den Meeresspiegeln“, sagt Künstler Joy Lohmann.
Er hat mit deutschen und indischen AktivistInnen das „makers4humanity“, ein modulares Inselbausystem, entwickelt. Aus globalisiertem Wohlstandsmüll bauen sie eine Rettungsinsel, einen Schwimmgarten, ein Hausboot oder eine Energieplattform. Der Müll aus Flüssen und Wäldern, vom Strand oder Straßenrand wird gesammelt. So verwandeln sie Problemstoffe in Bauteile für Lösungsplattformen. Bei den kooperativen MakerCamps kommen zusätzlich lokale Gruppen zusammen, die während des co-kreativen Inselbaus von und miteinander lernen. In Gemeinschaft lässt sich viel erreichen, vor allem um einen nachhaltigen Lebensstil zum Wohle aller und unseres Planeten zu ermöglichen. Die inspirierenden Open-Islands schwimmen bereits in Indien, Thailand und Deutschland. Die nächsten Projekte sind ein schwimmendes KlimaLabor in Hannover und eine internationale (open-source) Wissensplattform zum Inselbau und zu autarkem, nachhaltigen Leben in Gemeinschaft.

They build a life raft, a swimming pool, a houseboat or an energy platform from globalized wealth. The garbage from rivers and forests, from the beach or roadside, is collected. This is how they transform problematic substances into components for solution platforms. The cooperative MakerCamps also bring together local groups who learn from and with each other during co-creative island-building. A lot can be achieved in community, above all to enable a sustainable lifestyle for the benefit of all and our planet. The inspiring Open Islands are already swimming in India, Thailand, and Germany. The next projects are a floating climate laboratory in Hanover and an international (open-source) knowledge platform on island-building and on self-sufficient, sustainable living in the community. The demand for swimming islands increases with the sea level, „says artist Joy Lohmann.
