During his years of working for technology giant Intel, foodprint founder Troy Swope has had to deal with vast amounts of plastic packaging waste. In addition to the unbelievable amount of packaging, he was particularly put off by the fact that certain computer components were contaminated by contact with the packaging during transport in containers similar to those used to sell pre-cut fruit in American supermarkets. His logical conclusion was that packaging which contaminates a computer component cannot be suitable packaging for food either - an inspection also revealed that the food was contaminated.

So Swope decided with his former Intel colleague and current foodprint co-founder Yoke Chung to bring alternative packaging products to the market. The foodprint packaging products are completely biodegradable and compostable, thanks to their cardboard like fibre structure. The foodprint packaging stands out due to its comparatively long shelf life, which allows food waste to be reduced and minimized. In addition, the package contents can easily be heated using a microwave oven. The footprint packaging is continuously gaining popularity - at this year's SuperBowl, for example, footprint packaging was already provided for food storage.
