To which topic does your idea refer?

Reuse and Upcycling

Describe your idea! How does it work to reduce / replace plastic? How will you involve others?

Handbags made of plastic or leather do not have to be! With the clothing a rethinking already takes place. I already produce handbags in individual pieces from Oeko Tex 100 and GOTS certified yarn. In addition, I also save yarn that would have been thrown away by textile factories. Because of its stability the material consists of 50% cotton and 50% polyacrylic (cotton needs a lot of water). However, I have already worked with 100% cotton. In the final product there is no need to use 1g plastic.
I would like to involve others for the production of these or would like to add textile lining for further stability and design more models. For this I can imagine to include others.

Think bigger - What can you add to your idea to make it 1 million times more effective?

I want to make my idea better known. Especially with women who carry handbags. I would like to let the target group decide which sizes and colours they want. To remove material or garbage from the seas and make handbags and accessories out of it would probably be even better.

Sustainability - How sustainable is your idea? What are the benefits for the environment?

The advantages are obvious, that no harmful substances are released into the environment, as is the case with synthetic material, PU/vegan leather. Cotton needs an enormous amount of water, polyacrylic, on the other hand, is not degradable and needs a lot of petroleum for its production. In order to have material at all, to work without pollutants and to get away from completely plastic, I decided to go for the middle course 50/50. The GOTS yarn is tested for harmful substances and the workers work under fair conditions.
