CLEAR RIVERS is brought to life in 2014 to find an active approach to the worldwide plastic pollution in open waters. CLEAR RIVERS works at the retrieval of debris in rivers and river mouths, sustainable re-use of plastics, organizing cleanups, creating awareness and education.

The letters of CLEAR outline the five elements of our approach:

Clean ups are organized to remove plastic litter from the river (shores) and to involve the local population and organizations.

Litter Traps are installed in the Port of Rotterdam, the Port of Brussels and in Ambon Indonesia. RIF is currently working on a fast international approach to retrieve marine litter in rivers before it reaches the seas and oceans.

Education about the plastic pollution, it causes and needed to be approached, is given at all levels of the educational system. Preventing plastic litter in the long term and to educate the next group of professionals to resolve this issue with the next decade(s).

Awareness is increased among the local population and organization to let them act towards plastic free rivers.

Recycling is used to give new value to the plastic litter and to prevent the plastics to be littered again. Durable new products are created with recycled plastics, such as our Litter Traps, a floating park, furniture, and building materials to improve the housing situation in less developed areas.

Together this creates an overall all-inclusive approach to marine litter in the short and long term.

CLEAR RIVERS benefits of six years’ experience in plastic retrieval, recycling and education. In Rotterdam (the Netherlands), Brussels (Belgium) and Ambon (Indonesia) successful projects are already ongoing with Litter Trap implementations, education and a range of circular products developed such as Litter Traps, a floating park, furniture, and building materials.

The world is filled with plastic, putting stress on our ecosystems and our health. People are increasingly conscious and looking for sustainable options. Polimeer sees plastic as a precious resource and not as a waste, they provide people with the opportunity to style their homes beautifully and guilt-free, by expressing their own identity without causing more environmental damage around them. 

5 years ago, Alessandro and Bob couldn’t find recycled plastic in the market to use for their own designs. Without proper means to create sustainably, the question raised was: how to reuse the same materials differently instead of always creating with virgin materials ?

For this reason, they started crafting plastic into unique and long-lasting objects and home decor. To adapt to everyone’s needs and to the environment, they created an on-demand production model with the help of digital manufacturing. This innovative approach allows to prevent unnecessary stock and produce as local, sustainable and transparent as possible, avoiding any addition to the plastic waste issue. Because small actions can have the greatest impacts, Polimeer wants to slowly but radically change the recycling industry from within and end the fast-consuming model.

Their mission is to disrupt the unsustainable design online market to guide buyers through sustainable design alternatives so that it is easier for them to make the right choice. 

Polimeer’s goal is to convert 1 ton of plastic by 2021. To do so they have: a committed team formed by brilliant minds, beautiful designs and a freshly launched minimalistic webshop. They want to spread the word that the plastic recycling revolution has started – let’s make an impact now!

Kunststoffschmiede

Die Kunststoffschmiede ist Entwicklungslabor und offene Werkstatt für lokales Plastikrecycling. Das, was du normalerweise in die Tonne haust, ist in der Kunststoffschmiede der Rohstoff, aus dem mit etwas Hitze und Druck Diamanten entstehen.
Seit 2017 kann hier selbst recycelt werden. Da die Kunststoffschmiede mittlerweile zur festen Recycling-Adresse in Dresden geworden ist, überlegt das Team, wie sich nun auch die Industrie für mehr Recycling begeistern lässt.

Kaffee gehört zu den beliebtesten Getränken weltweit. Mit steigendem Konsum steigen auch die Reste, der Kaffeesatz. Kaffeeform entstand aus der Idee, diese vermeintlichen Abfälle zu wiederverwenden und der Vision, daraus etwas Neues, Beständiges zu erschaffen. Jahrelange Forschung und Entwicklung führte zur innovativen Materialformel: ein robustes, vielseitiges Material basierend auf recyceltem Kaffeesatz und anderen nachwachsenden und recycelten Komponenten, formvollendet als Kaffeetassen.

Wir produzieren lokal und sozial. In Berlin arbeiten wir eng mit einem unabhängigen Fahrradkurierkollektiv und Werkstätten für Menschen mit Behinderung zusammen, die wichtige Schritte in Produktion und Versand verantworten. Die Zusammensetzung des Materials und die Herstellung der Tassen erfolgt bei zwei traditionellen Partnern in Deutschland.

Die Zukunft

Kaffeeform will geltende Perspektiven auf Ressourcen verändern. Der wichtigste Bestandteil des Kaffeeform Materials ist ein Recycling Rohstoff. Die gewonnene Material- und Produktionsexpertise können wir übertragen und aus anderen verschwendeten Ressourcen gut gestaltete Alltagsgegenstände formen.
